A charity close to Michele’s heart is Camp BUCKO. Camp BUCKO is a unique summer camp that caters specifically to children who have experienced burn injuries. Camp BUCKO provides a safe and supportive environment for children to connect with others who have undergone similar experiences and to engage in social, recreational and therapeutic activities that helps to boost self confidence, the development of leadership skills and encourage personal development.
Camp BUCKO (Burn Camp for Kids in Ontario) is a camp open to burn survivors between the ages of 7-17. The camp has grown to over 70 children attending the week long camp in August. There is no fee to attend Camp BUCKO. We are a registered charity providing the program through generous donations from the Firefighting community, service groups, and individuals from the private and public sectors. A Board of volunteers from across Ontario plans for camp all year. With the donations we receive we are able to fully fund each child’s stay at camp, their transportation and provide them with souvenirs from camp, otherwise known as “swag”.
