Lila Lee: How One Woman’s Grief Led to a Thriving Art Business

Lila Lee’s art is truly inspiring and well loved by Fox Team member Jessica Spodek.

Lila began painting 18 years ago as a therapeutic outlet following the loss of her mother, 2 weeks after the birth of her child. That spring, Lila went for a walk and stumbled upon an art store and felt compelled to purchase three canvases and art supplies. Painting became a therapeutic outlet that allowed her to work through the grief of losing her mother. However, as life became busy, Lila eventually stopped painting.

Fast forward to 2020, during the early days of the pandemic, while cleaning her home, Lila rediscovered her art supplies. She dusted them off and began painting once more. After receiving a commission from a friend, more followed, and Lila’s business began to thrive.

For Lila, art is more than just a creative outlet; it’s a way to connect with people and inspire them through her work. Lila sees beauty in everyday things, such as a birch tree in High Park, and is constantly thinking about the composition of her paintings and looks at the world through the lens of an artist. As a former photographer, she has a keen understanding of composition, allowing her to create pieces that fit perfectly within her clients’ spaces.

Lila loves commissioning special pieces for her clients, she loves to feed off their energy to create pieces that fit perfectly within their homes. She thinks of her clients as she paints, staying connected to them throughout the process. Describing her style as “Happy. Long strokes. Soothing. Colourful,” Lila has an emotional attachment to many of her pieces, which may not necessarily be technically the best, but instead hold sentimental value.

Lila’s work is truly striking, beautiful, and inspiring. To view more of her art and to connect with Lila, visit her Instagram page @lilaleeart . Experience the transformative power of Lila’s art and discover how one woman’s grief led to a thriving art business.
